"Here on the Pitt quad, director Bria Walker, vocal coach Kim Griffin and puppet coach Sam Turich have coaxed some sparkling performances from a mostly sophomore and junior group of actors. It’s fun to go through the program and find that among the Pitt Theatre Arts majors and minors are actors and designers studying business, neuroscience, bioinformatics and yes, there is an English major.
Standouts in combining vocal work, facial expressions and puppeteering included Lauryn Thomas (Kate Monster), Tim Kaniecki (Rod), Molly Balk (Lucy T. Slut) and Jay Garcia (Trekkie Monster/Bad Idea Bear). Unlike Broadway, few of the roles are doubled by one actor as they were in the show’s original Broadway run -- for example, Stephanie D’Abruzzo voiced both Kate and Lucy. Using more actors here proved to be a chance for more people to shine."
