THEA 1331: Actor-Citizen: Applied Performance for the HERE and NOW
This course considers how we might engage with our community as “actor-citizens” through applied performance, a set of theater methodologies that address real world issues and social change. Based on the premise that an actor’s work can extend far beyond the stage and screen, we will explore the many possibilities for cultivating impactful artistic practice through engagement with a variety of communities and industries including healthcare, education, and social services. As critical thinkers we will collaboratively investigate interdisciplinary approaches for humanistic thinking, communication, and action. Engagement with this material will expand future employment opportunities and empower us to serve the communities and societies in which we live. The semester's work will culminate in an applied performance project which will be envisioned, developed and implemented collaboratively in small groups. Acting is a superpower. Let’s find new ways to use it.
