Special Topics in Performance: Career Development for Performing Artists

This course is designed to equip students with the tools needed to work as professional actors.

Over the course of the semester, students will be introduced to and practice a variety of audition

techniques through hands-on, mock audition exercises. Students will execute mock theater, film, VO, and non-traditional auditions and exercises as part of their course work. Students will also be exposed to the business side of the industry, exploring areas such as headshots, resumes, cover letters, mailings, breakdowns, agents, casting directors, unions, etc. Guest speakers (casting directors, agents, artistic directors, and actors) will visit over the course of the semester to offer in-depth Q and A sessions about the industry. Students will also engage with the greater theater community in Pittsburgh through mandatory "play weeks”, where students must see a professional production in Pittsburgh and make a professional connection.
