Biography

Maria Enriquez is a scholar/artist, K. Leroy Irvis fellow, and PhD candidate at the University of Pittsburgh. Her dissertation explores the professionalization and impact of U.S. Latino theatre companies. Maria is pursuing a Special Option in Devised Theatre within the Theatre Arts department.

Maria has taught undergraduate classes in Acting, Introduction to Performance, Theatre and Collaboration, and Introduction to Dramatic Arts. While teaching at ASU she was nominated for the Graduate and Professional Student Association Teaching in Excellence award. She has also led a number of workshops in Viewpoints and Suzuki, as she studied both during a three-year residency with SITI Company at ASU, and also participated in the SITI Summer Intensive at Saratoga Springs, NY. As a practitioner, she wrote/produced a one-woman show Over the Polychromatic Chasm, that she performed at ASU and the Phoenix Fringe Festival. Maria was an Artistic Associate with Teatro Luna, a Chicago-based, all-Latina theatre company, where she performed multiple roles in acting, directing, and devising. She has also worked as an actor or director at Chicago Dramatist, Cleveland Public Theatre, 16th Street Theatre, Mortar Theatre, the Tony-award winning Victory Gardens Theatre, and has performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. In the 2013-2014 UP Stages season, Maria directed Machinal, and performed in In The Heights.
