Biography

Maggie provides secretarial support to the chair, staff, and faculty of the department, including answering the phones, handling travel arrangements and scheduling and taking minutes for meetings. She also serves as the primary course-scheduling liaison with the Registrar’s office and other departments. In addition, she coordinates the graduate-admissions process and helps graduate students as well as all prospective students, from first inquiry through graduation. Day-to-day, Maggie deals with requests for copies, the department’s listserv, parties and events, and ordering office supplies. She will coordinate catering orders and related aspects for such events as post-show critique/talk-backs, welcome parties, and opening-night parties. Maggie is the first line of contact on the phone, by e-mail, and in-person for most initial departmental contacts and inquiries.

She coordinates meetings, places book orders, prepares and distributes meeting agendas and minutes, coordinates the reservations and use of the department’s A-V equipment, assists staff with the office equipment when needed, and details with files and records as appropriate. Official University forms and reports such as permission slips, printing and facilities requests, verification reports, faculty-activity reports, and other routine items are either stocked or routed by Maggie. She assists in aspects of varied databases and works with the communications director in gathering and routing alumni contact data as well as updating and editing admissions communications (cover letters, packet items, Web copy).

She assists the head of undergraduate studies with student communications. For the graduate program, she is the primary contact for the processing of applications, answering questions, and welcoming/orienting new students, as well as supervising the administration of such tests as preliminary exams and comps. She prepares all TA/TF communications and works to assure admissions files and subsequent communication is maintained. Maggie oversees the office work-study students in day-to-day assignments and assists in all aspects of running the front office.
